Shamal’s story
Shamal Kumal
Shamal has spent the past 15 years working in the Music, Media and Publishing industries. She is an experienced communications, employee engagement and DE&I Specialist who advocates for positive change that creates safe, inclusive spaces within the workplace so that everyone can bring their whole self to work.
Shamal is a people person and her passion lies in breaking down barriers in the creative industry to ensure there is equitable access to entry and upward mobility for people from underrepresented communities.
Throughout her career, Shamal has worked on various projects and events with The Amy Winehouse Foundation, Young Guns Network, Bauer Media, BBC Introducing Live, Kobalt Music and Help Musicians to name but a few. She has led and implemented DE&I initiatives and social media strategies and produced events (both online and in person) for Handle Recruitment, Dennis Publishing, Under One Sky, and Radio Harrow (formerly Radio Northwick Park).
Born in London and of Indo-Caribbean heritage, Shamal is also a passionate foodie. She is the founder of Cooking With Shamoo and runs virtual cooking experiences that are perfect for reconnecting with family and friends or as team building and employee engagement activities. Her cooking sessions focus on celebrating the diversity of Caribbean cuisine, reigniting the joy of home cooking, and the benefits of cooking for mindfulness and self-care.
